Personal Panopticon Dérive Device

2014

Personal Panopticon Dérive Device is a wearable observation instrument. A frosted faceplate maintains the wearer’s anonymity and prevents the direction of their gaze from being known. Eight toy periscopes can be rotated individually to look in almost any direction, achieving the effect of a panopticon in mobile miniature. Yet this effect is a pretense; a display of surveillance. Being toys, the periscopes yield a poor field of vision, meaning that a wearer’s dérive is more chance-driven than purposeful.
